Ace photographer Tim Roth managed to get access to take photos of the new Tasty N Alder opening at 580 SW 12th (across from Gr?ner).
Though the space is still very under construction, it is starting to take shape. They?ve?got a nice flat top for searing, and a Chitwood grill that is gas fed to ceramic briquettes, with little wood smoke trays built-in, simulating (in a more eco-friendly manner) the sort of range that might normally be wood fired. The brunch menu will be about the same as Tasty n Sons, but the dinner menu will be quite a bit different, focusing on the grill. I?m thinking meat.
The tabletops are all reclaimed wood from a turn of the century parking garage. The plywood panels are being arranged like brick masonry, and the floors are original granite that has been diamond polished and promises some amazing patterns. The ceiling will be left mostly bare with exposed beams and black canvas. There will be four bar seats overlooking at the kitchen and a modest round community table, as well as a fairly central banquette. The last photo with the sheetrocked wall is an extension of the space to?accommodate?and office and restrooms, which apparently required pouring three feet of concrete to bring it up to the same level as the rest of the space.
My sources tell me the open house for the new restaurant is planned for January 26th at 5pm ? the public will be invited. Stay tuned for confirmation and details.

"I have a wide-range of food experience - working in the restaurant industry on both sides of the house, later in the wine industry, and finally traveling/tasting my way around the world. Whether you agree or disagree, you can always count on my unbiased opinion. I don't take free meals, and the restaurants don't know when, or if, I am coming."
